Building a New World Together

Everybody knows about global warming. But we barely consider that concrete is responsible for 8% of global CO2 emissions. To replace concrete, we have a valuable resource: construction waste. 
But most destruction lies in landfills: we dig holes to get materials, make buildings, and dispose of them in landfills. We are throwing away things that we could use. Arcadia recycles construction and wood waste and can make objects of many shapes: bricks, tiles, tables, and even buildings. With Arcadia, at least 80% of CO2 saving is achieved compared to traditional production processes. We select and use natural bacteria to create bio-materials on solutions for a better world:

Arcadia - How does it work?

THE INPUT: 

1. Arcadia Bacteria (indigenous)

2. Arcadia Nutrients

3. Raw materials (round desert sand,
    crushed concrete, waste wood, other waste,
    more is under research)

4. Water.

ENVIRONMENT:

Arcadia process is low CO2, as almost the whole emission from our process is indirect, by upstream production of Arcadia Nutrient. Low energy, since there is no need for energy except for mixing, keeping the bacteria at an ideal temperature (25°C to 30°C), and drying out (50°C to 70°C) the final product.

BIO-MIMIC NATURE:

Arcadia Bacteria produce a natural adhesive made of calcium carbonate (CaCO3, the same material of corals and seashells) that forms a mesh around the crushed particles of waste and keeps them together, exploiting a technique called MICP
(Microbial Induced Calcium Carbonate Precipitation). 

We can produce any kind of forms - From Bricks to Art

To make a block of biomaterial, we pour in mold crushed wastes, our Arcadia Nutrients, and Arcadia Bacteria: bacteria work for 7 to 28 days (depending on the final hardness wanted)

Can it be Recycled Again? 

When the final product, built with the Arcadia process, comes at the end of its life, it is possible to crush it again and continue recycling (about 5% of new waste may be necessary). 

What is possible?

Arcadia applies to several waste materials such as excavation, construction, wood, masonry, mine wastes, glass, and in the future, to plastic and hazardous wastes (e.g., heavy metals). 

The shape of final products adapts to the mold’s shape: tiles, bricks, pipes, chairs, and tables. It is possible to build complex structures such as houses made of recycled wood with Arcadia. 

Arcadia will continuously supply its clients with bags of Arcadia Nutrients and the knowledge to effectively build and operate and optimize a production facility, where the waste will be turned into final products using the Arcadia process. 

Our R&D department is working on new base input materials and optimising the output for other waste areas by Arcadia bacteria, Arcadia nutrition, and process know-how.

Achievements and Results

We validated Arcadia for excavation and construction wastes (up to more than 30 MPa), wood wastes, glued wood-based panels, and clay. We filed an Italian Patent in 2020 with the title: ‘Method for Increasing the Calcium Carbonate Concentration in a Geomaterial.’ Our strength is Innovation, R&D, and experience in circular economy projects.
 We are looking for a partner company that has experience in large-scale production and market access. Our complete team is committed to building a JV together with a partner with large scale production know-how and creating trail-blazers for future green entrepreneurs leveraging Arcadia processes and know-how. Together, our value proposition shall be protected by new patents specific for waste treatment processing with MICP methodology - we will be the first company that applies MICP to waste.
